Watercolour Painting

The pleasure of a watercolour painting holiday

As a new convert to watercolour painting, I have been surprised and delighted at how quickly my technique has improved with practice and good teaching.

Anyone who has tried to paint will recognise that like any other skill it needs continual practice. The key to the painting is the amount of paint and the amount of water and getting a feel for that can only come from working at it. It is very easy for us to put hobbies aside and get on with the things we feel are more important, yet I have discovered that the time spent working on a painting helps me to  adjust everything else in my day into perspective , so quite apart from improving my technique it has definately improved my stress levels.

Coming on a painting break is a wonderful way of giving time and concentration to your skills. Iain our tutor is skillful, perceptive and very gently suggests how improvements can be made. His combination of encouragement and skill is just what is needed to bring out the best in your paintings.

Of course if you ever lack subject matter then look no further. From the main rooms in Gartmore House the views are fantastic, wide vistas across the moor towards Stirling, the gardens with fabulous trees, or even the house itself with its beautiful architectural style. For the braver, I have often thought that painting on the roof would offer great views, if you are not afraid of heights!

The colours surrounding us in August are truly stunning, and a delight for your palette, a week of gentle painting teaching , with good company ,in luxury surroundings will all add to a memorable experience.
