2010 Techniques
Explore two techniques for Card Trick designs:
Truly Traditional - a method to construct blocks suitable for panels for bags, cushions or small wall hangings/quilts. This method is suitable for hand or machine piecing.
Super Speedy - a technique to construct quilts from cot to kingsize. This technique requires a sewing machine.
You will also explore different settings, straight and diagonal, tips and tricks for success.
Alternatively or additionally, bring along your U.F.O's! (unfinished objects) to work on with lots of helpful friendly advice and encouragement. Enjoy the time and space to complete those unfinished works!
Your Week
Arrive late afternoon on the Monday to afternoon tea in the lounge and a warm welcome from your tutor.
During the week you will work on your project at morning and afternoon sessions in the studio at Gartmore House. By the end of your holiday you will have completed your chosen small/medium project or be well on with a larger quilt (or finished that if you are very speedy!) Projects include a tote bag, cushions, wall hangings and quilts from cot to kingsize.
Wednesday afternoon gives free time to explore on your own or visit a local attraction with your fellow patchworkers (entry fee included in the package).
Spend the evenings in our lounge where we provide a variety of entertainment which could include a history of the house with its wonderful tale of politics poetry and passion, (you may be interested particularly in the Cayzer Room freize, which past quilters have used in their designs), quizzes and games, or if you choose, continue work on your project.
Departure is after breakfast on the Friday.
What do I need?
A list of equipment/materials to bring will be sent to you on booking. We do ask that you bring your own sewing machine. If however this is not possible, we are able to provide one for use during your holiday at a small charge.
