Home » Activity Holidays » Braiding Braiding Braids and bands are narrow textiles made by linking together a few strands of yarn. This method has been used for hundreds of years for ties and trims on clothing and household items. Your tutor Jean Leader will teach you some of the different ways of making braids, and how to use them to make bracelets. Threads will be provided, although you may want to bring your own if you have a particular colour scheme in mind. Tutor Jean Leader Your tutor Jean Leader is based in Glasgow. Jean has always been interested in textiles – knitting, crochet, embroidery, sewing and, later, weaving and spinning – and one day stumbled upon a book about bobbin lacemaking, so decided to try that too! Making, designing, teaching and writing books on the subject of lace has since formed an integral part of Jean’s life for over thirty years. In recognition of her work for lace and lacemaking Jean received the 2015 Marsh Heritage Crafts Volunteer Award. Having previously served as chairman of The Lace Guild, Jean is the current President of the International Organization of Lace. Jean is also the tutor for our Lace Making courses.
