Macrame can be used in so many decorative and practical ways in your home, wardrobe and garden. Through a series of specially designed projects you’ll develop the skills and confidence to create an advanced macrame piece playing with size and intricacy by the end of the course. You’ll learn how to estimate rope lengths, plan designs, add colour and be playful with your projects to create one of a kind macrame. If you have any treasures gems such as beads, driftwood, hoops and charms, looking for a permanent home, bring them along and Lucy will show you how to incorporate them into your design. You’ll come away from the course with beautiful unique macrame pieces and the skillset to continue making at home. The above is based on single occupancy. A £100 per person discount is applied for art, craft and activity guests on a shared occupancy basis. Macrame Plant Hanger – Sunday 13th to Friday 18th February 2022Master the techniques of macrame through creating one of a kind plant and pot hangers. Throughout the course you’ll be learning the skills and developing ideas to incorporate into your final unique design. Even after the first day you’ll have created your first hanger to master the basic knots and design concept. With the guidance of your tutor your final design could be up to 3 tiers in length depending on the intricacy of your hanger, and the spot in mind to hang it with pride at home. Macrame Wall Hanging – Sunday 10th to Friday 15th July 2022Master the art of macrame through creating your very own unique wall hanging. If you have anything you’d like it hung from in particular, like drift wood for example, please bring it along and we’ll be sure to incorporate in your final design. During the course you’ll be working on smaller projects building up the skill set and technique for the more advanced final piece. Macrame Christmas – Sunday 25th to Friday 30th September 2022Master the techniques of macrame through creating all your Christmas gifts early this year! You’ll be creating at least 4 macrame plant hangers ready to wrap up and pop under the Christmas tree, and you’ll have the chance to develop your skillset on Christmas decorations before tackling your very own Christmas wreath. SundayCheck in is from 4pm where you will receive a warm welcome from our team.Once you are unpacked and settled, we invite you to enjoy some tea or coffee and home baking in the lounge where you can relax after your journey.If you have never been on a holiday like this before, we understand how anxious you may be. That’s why, come 6pm, everyone will gather in the lounge for the Welcome Talk and Meet & Greet, giving you the chance to meet both your fellow guests and your tutor before the start of the course on Monday. Your tutor will talk you through what to expect from the week, discuss what you would like to achieve during your stay, and answer any questions you may have. From there, dinner is served at 6:30pm in the downstairs dining room. Monday to ThursdayThroughout the week, tuition runs from 10am to 4pm with regular breaks for tea and coffee so you can relax and have a natter with your fellow guests about everything you’ve been up to so far.All your meals are served in the dining room.Evening tea and coffee is available in the lounge at 9pm. Transfers from Glasgow or Edinburgh Airports are available at an additional cost. All materials required will be provided by your tutor. You are most welcome to bring along any items you wish to incorporate into your design such as beads, driftwood, hoops and charms. Tutor Lucy Wayman Welsh born Lucy moved to Edinburgh to study a degree in Sculpture from Edinburgh College of Art. Lucy now lives and works in Edinburgh with a studio based at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. She has worked with a wide range of materials within her practice, focusing on fibre works the past 5 years alongside teaching the meditative craft of macrame. She has exhibited work at Dovecot (2018), Hidden Door Festival (2018, 2019) and completed a Bothy Project residency in collaboration with Toast (2019). She was recently selected for a commission and created a large-scale public art piece which is hung above Newhaven cycle path.
