Clare will be on hand to guide you through the design and construction options and techniques. You will learn both traditional millinery methods and discover a range of exciting and contemporary uses of alternative materials. Amaze yourself and play! Your ‘Fabulous Fascinator’ may be discreet and chic or flamboyant and extravagant; in this workshop learn how to create a variety of fascinator styles from scratch, and work on your chosen design/s, taking home one or two finished creations to ‘wow’ your family and friends. We will be working with sinamay, parasisal, silks, lace, wire, metals, beads and found feathers and more…and learn many techniques for creating flowers, leaves, sculptural elements and more to create our fascinators and which can also be used for corsages, clips – even home decor! The above is based on single occupancy. A £100 per person discount is applied for art, craft and activity guests on a shared occupancy basis. January 29th to February 3rd 2023 April 30th to May 5th 2023 If you’re coming on one of our holidays and would like to bring a friend, partner, or member of your family, then we have you (and them!) covered. Accompanying guests will enjoy full board catering and shared accommodation with you. We also have a full programme of day trips and activities on offer for them. SundayCheck in is from 4pm where you will receive a warm welcome from our team.Once you are unpacked and settled, we invite you to enjoy some tea or coffee and home baking in the lounge where you can relax after your journey.If you have never been on a holiday like this before, we understand how anxious you may be. That’s why, come 6pm, everyone will gather in the lounge for the Welcome Talk and Meet & Greet, giving you the chance to meet both your fellow guests and your tutor before the start of the course on Monday. Your tutor will talk you through what to expect from the week, discuss what you would like to achieve during your stay, and answer any questions you may have. From there, dinner is served at 6:30pm in the downstairs dining room. Monday to ThursdayThroughout the week, tuition runs from 10am to 4pm with regular breaks for tea and coffee so you can relax and have a natter with your fellow guests about everything you’ve been up to so far.All your meals are served in the dining room.Evening tea and coffee is available in the lounge at 9pm. FridayCheck out by 10am What’s Included 4 days of specialist tuition from Clare Workman Full board catering 5-nights accommodation Complimentary transfers from Stirling train station are available on the arrival and departure days (pick-up from the station at 15:30, departs Gartmore House at 10:00). Transfers from Glasgow or Edinburgh Airports are available at an additional cost. All guests will receive a materials kit which includes all necessary foundation materials, as well as materials for a wide variety of trims. We kindly ask all participants to please bring a hand sewing kit with scissors (both for paper and fabric) pins, needles, threads, thimble, tape measure etc. Don’t worry if you forget or don’t have something as there will be equipment to borrow, but it is easier if you have your own kit to hand. If you have a particular colour scheme in mind please let tutor Clare know in advance and please do bring any small amounts of materials eg silk, satin, cotton, organza, beads, ribbons, buttons, feathers, old costume jewellery etc in your chosen colour to play with and potentially add to your fascinator. Tutor Clare Workman Clare studied millinery in Glasgow and at The London College of Fashion before setting up and running her own very successful millinery business for 12 years. She made hats and headpieces for clients from all over the world, and has taught and exhibited widely. The Science Museum in London has one of her hats on permanent exhibition in The Challenge of Materials Gallery. Clare specialises in designing and making unique and stylish hats with contemporary flair yet with a firm foundation in traditional millinery skills. Clare loves to share her knowledge and skills through teaching in a relaxed friendly style and looks forward to welcoming you to Gartmore House.
