Nestled in the heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, you’ll have the chance to totally unwind and have some dedicated time for your favourite hobby! This is the prefect opportunity to do more of what you love.

Suitable for solo travellers, couples, or groups of friends wanting to try something new together, our soft furnishing courses are the perfect setting to brush up on your sewing skills and even make a friend or two!
Explore your creativity stitching up a choice of striking interior accessories with textile designer Morag Gray. Make a Little House Doorstop in tasteful tweeds or funky fabrics, or an exotic pouffe/footstool in a colourful collage of fabrics using free-machining and reverse applique techniques.

Some sewing experience is necessary as over the four days you will follow a basic pattern with Morag’s guidance on your personal choice of design and decoration. There is plenty scope to add personal details so that everyone makes something quite unique. Fabrics and structural stiffening will be provided but you may wish to include some material in your own choice of pattern or colour.

Bring along your sewing machine and enjoy spending time making something highly original for yourself as a family heirloom, or as a special gift for a friend!

Your Course Tutor: Morag Gray

After school, Morag enjoyed helping out in the costume department at Dundee Rep, and was persuaded to go to Edinburgh College of Art to study Fashion and Textiles. Learning pattern-cutting and garment construction to a high level of finish stood set in good stead. Making colourful children’s wear and funky fashion accessories was great fun in the exuberant eighties and she followed up with a post-graduate business course at Stirling University.

Work as a colour-consultant to several weaving mills followed, along with teaching at Duncan of Jordanstone in Dundee and work in an Interior Design showroom. A City and Guilds course in Embroidery and Creative Textiles led Morag back to making costumes for Dance and Drama students at Dundee College where she enjoyed collaborating with the students on their ideas, often re-working existing costumes by dyeing and making interesting effects on a tight budget.

This gave her a preference for working with re-cycled fabrics such as vintage linens and lace. Good quality materials often become more interesting with wear and may bring special meaning with familiar associations to personal work. There is so much material of good quality being wasted, that Morag encourages students to use what they have to hand, or can swap with friends. Sample books and scraps are great inspiration too!

She currently teaches in Dundee and Perth on a regular basis and she particularly enjoys the stimulus of working with like-minded people, encouraging them to experiment with the huge variety of textile techniques around. It’s always more fun to work with others and sharing ideas challenges her to keep learning too!
