Tutor Alan Lewis’ ‘hands-on’ approach to individual tuition ensures that no-one will feel they are being left behind. His infectious enthusiasm for the craft results in students returning to his classes again and again. By the end of the week you will have completed an A4 sized piece of stained-glass art to keep and cherish for years to come. The above is based on single occupancy. A £100 per person discount is applied for art, craft and activity guests on a shared occupancy basis. February 19th to 24th 2023 July 2nd to 7th 2023 November 5th to 10th 2023 If you’re coming on one of our holidays and would like to bring a friend, partner, or member of your family, then we have you (and them!) covered. Accompanying guests will enjoy full board catering and shared accommodation with you. We also have a full programme of day trips and activities on offer for them. Payment, Terms & Conditions A 25% deposit is required to secure your booking. Full payment is due 3 months prior to arrival. For art, craft & activity holidays booked within 3 months of course start date, full payment is required at the time of booking. Art, craft & activity holidays are subject to availability and subject to change. By the end of the week you will have create a piece of stained-glass art at least A4 size containing a minimum of 20 multicoloured pieces of glass. Over the course of four days, you will cover the following construction technique: Learn how to cut plain glass to fit their design Practise joining the pieces using either lead or copper foil. Solder plain glass – then throw it away! Cut the coloured glass required for your choosen design. Lead up the glass. Solder the joins. Cement the piece. Final polish. SundayCheck in is from 4pm where you will receive a warm welcome from our team.Once you are unpacked and settled, we invite you to enjoy some tea or coffee and home baking in the lounge where you can relax after your journey.If you have never been on a holiday like this before, we understand how anxious you may be. That’s why, come 6pm, everyone will gather in the lounge for the Welcome Talk and Meet & Greet, giving you the chance to meet both your fellow guests and your tutor before the start of the course on Monday. Your tutor will talk you through what to expect from the week, discuss what you would like to achieve during your stay, and answer any questions you may have. From there, dinner is served at 6:30pm in the downstairs dining room. Monday to ThursdayThroughout the week, tuition runs from 10am to 4pm with regular breaks for tea and coffee so you can relax and have a natter with your fellow guests about everything you’ve been up to so far.All your meals are served in the dining room.Evening tea and coffee is available in the lounge at 9pm. Transfers from Glasgow or Edinburgh Airports are available at an additional cost. All tools, materials and safety glasses will be provided for the course. The ideal clothing for the course is ‘old’ items that are worn in the knowledge that they may be subject to damage and subsequent disposal. The addition of a heavy-duty stout apron or natural fibre (e.g. cotton) apron would be helpful. Please note: The wearing of safety glasses will be required at all times in the workshop. Tutor Alan Lewis Your Stained Glass Tutor, Alan Lewis, has over thirty-five years’ experience of his craft, and is a member of the Scottish Glass Society. He completed an HND in Glass Art in 2018 and has been a tutor at Perth UHI since 2011. He regularly undertakes commissions, including for churches and public schools. For the last seven years he has shown completed pieces in exhibitions in both Perth and Dunkeld. His most recent work was when he won the commission to complete six stained glass panels of iconic Perthshire views for the Perth & Kinross Council Leader Awards due to be presented in September 2020. His tuition covers both copper foil and leaded methods of stained glass. He is enthusiastic about the history of his craft and is always delighted to answer any questions you may have.
