Explore our 18th century quaint and quirky home, with beautiful period features or venture offsite in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. You’ll learn about the following topics: Theory and approach to photography Identifying potential subjects Creative composition Understanding light Mastering camera controls Image processing and finishing You could focus on the following, dependent on the weather and interests of the group: Gartmore House landscapes, architectural and natural details, image processing; landscapes and water movement; still life, studio and interior work. During the holiday students will review, discuss and give feedback on their photographs. The photographs you will take will be specific to Gartmore and the surrounding area, however the approach and techniques learned are transferable. A £100 per person discount is applied for art, craft and activity guests on a shared occupancy basis. SundayCheck in is from 4pm where you will receive a warm welcome from our team.Once you are unpacked and settled, we invite you to enjoy some tea or coffee and home baking in the lounge where you can relax after your journey.If you have never been on a holiday like this before, we understand how anxious you may be. That’s why, come 6pm, everyone will gather in the lounge for the Welcome Talk and Meet & Greet, giving you the chance to meet both your fellow guests and your tutor before the start of the course on Monday. Your tutor will talk you through what to expect from the week, discuss what you would like to achieve during your stay, and answer any questions you may have. From there, dinner is served at 6:30pm in the downstairs dining room. Monday to ThursdayThroughout the week, tuition runs from 10am to 4pm with regular breaks for tea and coffee so you can relax and have a natter with your fellow guests about everything you’ve been up to so far.All your meals are served in the dining room.Evening tea and coffee is available in the lounge at 9pm. Friday Check out by 10am What’s Included 4 days of specialist tuition from Ewan Barry Full board catering 5-nights accommodation Complimentary transfers from Stirling train station are available on the arrival and departure days (pick-up from the station at 15:30, departs Gartmore House at 10:00). Transfers from Glasgow or Edinburgh Airports are available at an additional cost. Photography holiday participants are asked to bring the following with them. A camera – ideally digital with a manual control option, but whatever you usually shoot with will be fine. Ewan loves to shoot on film but the opportunity to process and review images during your stay will be limited. Make sure you have spare batteries too. A laptop – to download, process and review images. If you don’t have laptop, you can add images to Ewan’s for reviewing and feedback but the image processing you’ll be able to do during your time at Gartmore will be limited. Tripod – useful for longer exposures, recording the movement of water etc. Ewan has a couple that guests can use but if you don’t want to share or wait your turn then it would be best to bring one with you. Weather appropriate clothes – you will spend as much time as possible outdoors in the beautiful landscape with your cameras, and it’s nice to be dry! Bring a few layers, something waterproof and walking shoes. Tutor Ewan Barry Your tutor is Ewan Barry, a professional photographer based in Edinburgh. Following a successful exhibition in the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 Ewan began running photography tours and workshops, attracting clients of all abilities from beginners to fellow professionals.
