“While looking for a way to level up my sewing skills, I was so excited to find that Gartmore House offers this corset making class near me.”

Corset making is the perfect challenge for the seasoned sewist. But where are you supposed to begin?

Gartmore House offers the perfect opportunity to get away from it all with this residential corset making class. Over the course of the holiday, you’ll have the dedicated time and space to get to know your busks from your boning channels. Our expert tutor will give you all the skills you need to create something truly spectacular. What’s more? You’ll spend your time surrounded by the beautiful Scottish countryside too! What’s not to love?

What can you expect from a corseting making class at Gartmore House? Expert tuition, new sewing challenges, and the chance to make new friends!

Create a beautiful piece of corsetry, reminiscent of the eras of Outlander and Marie Antoinette, under the eye of Scottish corsetiere Alison Campbell.

A corset is the perfect garment for expressing your creativity – as shapely as any piece of sculpture, it can be as simple or as elaborate as your imagination can make it. During the course you will create a pair of 18th century stays, the precursor to modern corsets. These give a striking, and remarkably comfortable, period shape with minimal waist reduction but great uplift. Very much in keeping with our setting, you will learn about the history and techniques of corset making as well as where we can substitute new materials to shift from historical accuracy to modern fashion (as seen in the gowns of Vivienne Westwood).

Whether your approach is historic, romantic, high fashion or with a more alternative edge, there is always a place for a corset.
