“I wondered if I could find patchwork and quilting classes near me, then I found Gartmore House.”

Perhaps the best patchwork and quilting classes are the ones you get to take on holiday?

Gartmore House’s patchwork and quilting classes are singularly unique experience. Not only will you have the chance to get away from it all in the heart of the Scottish countryside, but you’ll have the dedicated time and space to really get into the nitty gritty of your favourite craft, all under the watchful eye of Clare Workman, our expert tutor. This really is the perfect time for you to get those creative juices flowing again and finally make that project you’ve been putting off.

Get ready to try new creative challenges and techniques in a relaxing and nurturing environment with Gartmore House’s patchwork and quilting classes.

Our patchwork and quilting holidays will appeal to both the seasoned and novice quilter. From our studio at Gartmore House, with its panoramic views, you can enjoy the comforts of this beautiful house while receiving expert tuition and guidance from your tutor, Clare Workman.

There is a choice of a varied selection of taught techniques and projects (beginner’s sampler quilt, modern sampler blocks and quilt, seminole sampler bars and projects, delectable mountain traditional and modern, and quilting techniques by hand and machine), or bring your own Works-In-Progress or UnFinished Objects, for a busy yet relaxed creative holiday.

During your stay you will work on your project at morning and afternoon sessions. By the end of your holiday you will have completed your chosen small/medium project or be well on your way to a larger quilt.

Choose from a selection of taught techniques and projects including samplers, seminole, and beautiful bargello quilts. Or why not try our new theme for 2021 – the lovely delectable mountain quilts.

Sampler Blocks and Quilts
A fun versatile way to learn a range of patchwork and quilting skills both traditional and modern. Choose from a wide and ever increasing range of designs to make useful and beautiful items from cushions, bags, runners, etc to quilts of all sizes. New for 2021 are two variations of Modern Sampler Quilts with new modern patchwork techniques to learn and an opportunity to learn and practice new modern ways of machine quilting.

Beautiful Bargello and Modern Art Bargello
Bargello projects will still be available, plus Clare‘s new Modern Art Bargello designs – one using wonderful batik landscape fabric for a quick and easy `cheats‘ Bargello and the other a pictoral quilt with a flexible Bargello section within it.

Delectable Mountain Quilts
New for 2021! This is a lovely design with a modern feel if made with just two contrasting plain fabrics – or it is an ideal scrap buster or layer cake project for a very different look. Once the blocks are made (with Clare’s favourite ‘speedy’ method) there are many different ways they can be used, so lots to play with!

Christmas 2021
Join us for a festive Christmas Patchwork Weekend! Make a quick Christmas quilt, wall hanging, table runner, placemats, coasters, or bunting; lovely for your home or to give as gifts. We’ll be focusing on quick techniques and projects in time for Christmas!

UFOs (Unfinished Objects) or WIPs (Works In Progress)
Guests will as ever be very welcome to bring along their own projects to work on. Our patchwork and quilting holidays offer a great opportunity to finish those UFOs (Unfinished Objects) or WIPs (Works In Progress) – with the luxury of time, space and expert advice on hand if needed – you can finally see those projects completed! If you have a kit you’ve started and got stuck – or been unable to start at all – do bring it along and we’ll get things moving.
