Watercolour Painting Holidays

A watercolour painting holiday at Gartmore House gives you the chance to either learn from scratch or improve your skills in relaxed company and comfortable surroundings.

Our painting holidays are for all abilities; our groups are small, to allow our tutors to give you personalised instruction based upon your level of experience. Painting projects can either be indoors in one of the majestic and light-filled studio rooms of historic Gartmore House, or weather-permitting we will wander outdoors into the grounds of the estate.

Watercolour painting breaks are available from 2 nights up to 6 nights.

Tutors Ian & Katy Sinclair – for 2019 courses

Watercolour PaintingIan Sinclair trained at the Glasgow School of Art. He specialises in watercolour. He is best known for his landscape paintings but also takes commissions for portraits and animals. Another of Ian’s interests is cartoons and caricatures.

Ian is experienced in teaching both beginners and also more experienced painters. His gentle manner and friendly style, together with his love of landscape and nature, make him a popular tutor as he brings out the best from those who work with him.

Katy Sinclair is a local painter, with a style which is fast becoming recognisable as unique to her, whether it be watercolours of the Scottish landscape, the fine detail she captures in her flower paintings or the movement in her representations of the human form. Always talented at sketching, Katy only started painting in 2012 and since then has won 58 international awards! Gifted with a delicacy of touch and colour and a balance of detail, she is a figurative painter, whose works have an ethereal charm. Katy lives in the nearby village of Killearn with her husband Ian and two cats. She has lived and worked in Poland, Syria, the Czech Republic, England, Mexico, Belize and Portugal.

Katy loves Scotland and the richness and variety of its natural heritage which provide her with an infinite source of inspiration. Her work is becoming almost as well-travelled as she is; Katy’s paintings are being snapped up by visitors from many different countries and she is delighted that ‘little bits of Scotland’ adorn so many walls ─ at the present count, in five continents!

‘This week at Gartmore has been very enjoyable. We were made to feel welcome by the reception staff. The bedroom was very comfortable – good bed and pillows and was serviced daily. The food was generous and very good and the staff who looked after us were friendly and helpful. Many thanks for a good holiday.’ Mary, Watercolour Painting Course, August 2018
